The Art of Wellbeing
At Flip of the Coin, we believe that wellbeing is about far more than the absence of illness. It is about feeling connected, valued, creative and hopeful. It is about having somewhere you belong.
Funded by Creative Scotland, The Art of Wellbeing is our creative community programme, bringing people together through art, nature and shared experiences in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment. Whether someone is living with poor mental or physical health, recovering from trauma, experiencing loneliness, facing financial hardship, or simply looking for friendship and purpose, everyone is welcome.
Our sessions are designed to remove barriers to participation. There is no expectation that you are "good at art" or have any previous experience. Instead, we focus on the process rather than the finished product, creating opportunities for people to relax, express themselves, learn new skills and enjoy spending time with others.
Activities change throughout the year and are shaped by the interests of the people who attend. From painting, drawing and printmaking to ceramics, textiles, seasonal crafts and collaborative community projects, every session offers something different. We also make the most of our beautiful outdoor space at The Flipside, where creativity and nature come together through gardening, environmental projects and outdoor art.
The benefits of creativity are well recognised. Taking part in creative activities can reduce stress, improve confidence, support positive mental health and strengthen social connections. Combined with the restorative effects of spending time outdoors and being part of a supportive community, The Art of Wellbeing offers a powerful way for people to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Everything we do is informed by lived experience and shaped alongside our community. We know that people thrive when they are listened to, trusted and given opportunities to contribute. Many of our participants go on to volunteer, develop new skills, build friendships and become active members of the wider community.
The Art of Wellbeing is not simply an art class. It is a place to belong. A place to discover strengths, build confidence, reconnect with others and realise that positive change is always possible.
Whether you're looking to meet new people, improve your wellbeing, learn a new creative skill or simply enjoy a few hours in a welcoming environment, we'd love to welcome you.
